Non-roll or braided elastic is a good choice for waistbands inside a casing. Non-roll stays flat, and braided gives a firm, snug hold.

Can I sew through braided elastic?
It's best kept inside a casing. Stitching through braided elastic can weaken its stretch, so use knit elastic when you want to sew it directly to fabric.

How is the elastic sold?
