Have leftover Christmas fabric from last year? Don't let it sit in your stash — put it to work! Here are five creative projects that use up holiday fabric scraps while adding festive charm to your home.

1. Fabric Wreath

A fabric wreath makes a beautiful addition to any door or window frame and requires no sewing at all. Create a circular base using a polystyrene ring (available at craft stores) or a coiled rope. Cut your jelly roll strips or fabric scraps into short lengths and tie them in knots around the base until it's fully covered. A pool noodle cut to size also works well as a base — wrap it with fabric strips and secure the ends for a quick, reusable decoration.

2. Christmas Fabric Garland

Garlands look stunning draped around a Christmas tree or mantelpiece, and even small charm pack scraps work perfectly. You'll need:

  • Small Christmas fabric pieces
  • Iron-on interfacing
  • Ruler, scissors, and pencil
  • Cardboard triangle template
  • String and hot glue

Iron interfacing to fabric, cut triangles using your cardboard template, fold the short side of each triangle over the string, and glue in place at even intervals. Simple, reusable, and beautiful.

3. Fabric Ornament Bags

Small fabric bags make great game pieces for family activities or handy pouches for small gifts. Cut two circles from flannel fabric using a can lid as a template, sew right sides together leaving a gap, turn right side out, and fill with rice, dried beans, or fiberfill. Sew the opening closed. Easy enough for kids to help with!

4. Plaid Ruffle Pillow Cover

Red and white plaid fabric is a natural fit for Christmas décor. For a 12" × 16" pillow you'll need approximately ¾ yard of plaid fabric. Cut pieces as follows:

  • 1 piece 12" × 16" (pillow front)
  • 2 pieces 10" × 16" (envelope back)
  • 5 strips 2" × 44" (ruffles)

Gather the ruffle strips and pin them to the pillow front in overlapping rows, then assemble the envelope back and sew all pieces together. Clip corners, turn right side out, and insert your pillow.

5. Fabric Snowflake Ornaments

These reusable ornaments last for years and make wonderful handmade gifts. Cut Christmas fabric strips — one 2" wide and one 4" wide. Fold small strips in half lengthwise and nest them inside the longer strip, then sew along the long edge. Cut the stitched strip into ½" sections (you'll need 5 per ornament), join the sections in a circular pattern with fabric glue, and add a ribbon loop at the top.
