Watercolor Tonal Textures

Timeless Treasures' Tonal Sky Texture has a soft, mottled look that reads almost like a solid. Choose Rose, Gold, Blue or Lavender. For a little more movement, try Chong-A Hwang's Scroll Swirls in Purple or Orange.

White on White and Cream Blenders

Moda's Muslin Mates are a go-to for quilt backgrounds. Falling Snow comes in White and Muslin, Vine in White and Muslin, and Swirls in Muslin and Natural.

Low Volume Dots and Marbled Prints

Bonnie and Camille's Smitten Little Darling Dot Cream for Moda is a sweet low volume background, and the Jinny Beyer Palette Granite Topaz from RJR adds rich, stone-like depth.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between tone on tone and a blender?
Tone on tone is one kind of blender. The print and background share the same color, which makes it one of the easiest fabrics to pair with busier prints.

Can I use tone on tone instead of a solid?
Yes. You get the same calm look with a little more depth, and it hides small piecing imperfections better.

Do you have wide fabric for quilt backs?
Yes. Shop our 108" wide backing fabric for seamless quilt backs.
