Satin Silk Fabric

Fabric is formed with a Satin weave using filament fibers such as silk, the corresponding fabric is termed a satin.

Satin is not a material, whereas Silk is a raw material produced by silk worms that is used to make fabric. You can use silk to make Satin, as the word Satin is merely referring to the type of weave structure. Satin Fabric is a more expensive Satin than Satin Silk, because Satin Fabric contains cotton or synthetic fibers whereas Satin Silk contains only silk filament fibers.

Satin is very shiny and smooth, it gathers in distinct lines along its surface which causes light to reflect off these lines giving it a shimmering effect. Satin fabric is a looser weave than other weaves such as twill, but not to be confused with slub fabrics that have thicker threads over a smaller amount of thinner threads making the surface look rough or puckered. Satin Fabric can be made from either synthetic fiber or natural fibers such as silk.
