Caring for Fabric on the Coast
Gulf Coast humidity can be hard on a fabric stash. A few simple habits keep your fabric fresh and ready to sew:

Store it somewhere cool and dry. A closet inside your air-conditioned home is better than a garage or attic.

Let it breathe. Sealed plastic bins can trap moisture. Open shelves, cotton bags, or bins with moisture absorbers work better.

Keep it out of the sun. Direct sunlight can fade colors over time, especially along folds.

Pre-wash when it matters. Washing before you sew helps with shrinkage and removes sizing, which is a good idea for garments and quilts you'll wash often.

Refold now and then. Changing the fold lines helps prevent permanent creases and fading.
