How to Choose the Right Trim
For Lehengas
Lehenga borders typically require a heavier, wider trim (1.5–3+ inches) with strong visual impact. Look for gold or multicolor beaded options with dense embroidery. Our 2-inch Gold Embroidered Beaded Floral Lace and Multicolor Beaded Trim on Black are popular choices.
For Sarees
Saree borders and pallu finishes call for delicate to medium-weight trims that drape well. Scalloped edges, pearl borders, and silver beaded lace work beautifully along the saree pallu or along the hem of a plain saree to add instant elegance.
For Dupattas
Dupatta edging is one of the most creative areas of South Asian sewing. A simple organza or georgette dupatta transforms with a scalloped pearl lace, champagne crystal edge, or gold floral border. Consider 1–1.5 inch trims for lightweight fabrics.
For Blouses & Cholis
Blouse necklines, sleeves, and back openings benefit from narrow, precise trims — 1 to 1.5 inches. Beaded silver or gold lace adds a couture finish to even a simple cotton or silk blouse.
Tips for Sewing with Embroidered Trim
-
Pre-wash gently before attaching to garments, especially for beaded trims
-
Hand-stitch or use a zipper foot to sew close to beading without breaking needles
-
Measure generously — order 10–15% extra yardage for corners and mitering
-
Use fabric glue for temporary placement before final stitching
- For curved hems, steam and ease the trim gently before attaching
